California the drain on the U.S. Treasury.

Who’s going to clean up the mess? Just looking at the aerial views of California and the amount of burnt debris left behind by the fires, I mean, millions of tons that have to be dealt with. Who pays to clean it up: the property owners, the city, the state, or the federal government. Right now, it appears that all property is condemned so you can’t build on it and you can’t sell it. Also, before the restrictions are lifted, there will have to be soil samples tested to see if contaminated soil has to be replaced by new clean soil. They say 20 million to rebuild. That is a complete lie, let’s say a trillion at least. Just finding a place for the debris will, in all likelihood, be mostly hazmat. That is going to make it more expensive. It’s probably going to take a canyon several hundred feet deep and several hundred feet wide to bury all the ash and burnt material.
Most of the losses caused by the fire are the result of incompetent people in official positions. So I don’t think there should be any federal money handed to the State government. The money would never go where it should. FEMA should be defunded and a new agency called the American Emergency and Recovery Agency (AERA) staffed by people from reputable charitable organizations that have been involved with disaster relief efforts.
The people who have nothing left should be a top priority and see that everything is done to help them get their lives back. But no money handed to the State or Governor. All clean up and rebuild that is done with federal funds should be handled by AERA. This same kind of procedure should be done in North Carolina and other areas devastated by hurricanes.
